HELP:
USING METZGERS FTP SYSTEM
We
have found that file transfers over the Internet work best when your
files have been compressed into one file. It not only makes it easier to
send multiple files, but the file size is smaller which will result in
quicker uploads to our FTP server.
-
For the
PC Platform we suggest that you use the zip format.
WinZip
is the best for the windows format.
-
For the
Macintosh Platform, we recommend that you use
Stuffit to compress your files.
Both of
the above programs are shareware and can be downloaded clicking on
the hyperlinks provided.
ABOUT
FILE NAMES:
Files from the Macintosh should also be binary hex encoded (filename.hqx).
This ensures that our Macs will recognize the file types and know what
to do with them. When naming your files, please remember that we are
working in a mixed environment (i.e.. e are using Macs as well as PCs).
Please don't use any special characters (e.g.. !@#$%^&*()_/+|\) or the
PCs won't understand, and don't use names longer than 36 characters or
the Macs won't cope.
TO UPLOAD A FILE:
To upload your files, click on the "Browse"
button and select the file on your computer. Then, click on the
"Next" button to send the file to us and go on to the next
step.
Please note: You must be using either Netscape 2.0+ or
Internet Explorer 3.02 with File Upload Add-on or Internet Explorer
4.0. If you are not using Netscape Navigator 2.0+ or Microsoft
Internet Explorer 3.02+, you need to download a copy of this
software to use this feature. You will know if you need to
update your browser if you do not have a "Browse" button.
AOL Users: America Online 3.0 and above for Windows
95 and Macintosh has support for File Uploads. Please go to AOL
keyword: TECH LIVE or click
here for additional instructions on using AOL with browsers such
as Netscape and Internet Explorer.
