What will they think of next?
For more than 30 years—and at least a dozen cycles of new technology adoption—we’ve believed that we cannot wait for new technologies to reach the level of general acceptance. By that point, industry pioneers are already well established.
So we spend real time looking out for emerging trends. When we spot a new technology that promises to save our clients time or money, give them more control or flexibility, or improve our quality, we do a deep drill to assess its likely trajectory and potential impact. Trends that pass our research standards get acquired, tweaked and offered to our more progressive customers. If they get over all these hurdles, they become a cog in our get it done machine.
Here’s a sneak peek at a few opportunities we’re working on now, some
of which are ready for you to use:
QR codes Those rectangles that resemble demented checkerboards are an important bridge between the digital and real worlds. Use your cell phone to snap a photo of a QR code and go directly to a website, or a landing page to request something, or to a coupon. Metzgers has the capability to create and print custom QR codes and we are starting to apply them to printed materials, POS signs, posters and similar collateral. We are also experimenting with how to link QR codes to Personal URL’s (PURLs) to create a different path to customized communications.
Mobile web pages Soon, our customers who are road warriors will want to access order, proofing and other process functions from their smartphones. We are designing web pages than can display critical information on small screens, and can simplify webforms for mobile users.
Custom Prints and Products The ability to create and publish hard-bound picture books in small quantities is already a notable trend among some consumer segments, but it has not yet emerged among businesses. Metzgers is experimenting with online layout and production technologies that will enable marketers with some digital experience to create and publish their own company stories for multiple audiences, including customers, prospects, employees and other stakeholders.
Mobile Applications You all know what that is. You have your favorites. You probably just finished using the Twitter, Facebook, or Angry Birds app. Have an idea? Great. We have the development expertise to help you build your mobile application today.
