Chief Technology Officer

Eric is involved in anything at Metzger that involves technology. He oversees all of the servers, computers, and online store management systems.

He started with Metzgers in 1997 and built our first eStore, allowing customers to order printing online before a lot of other printing companies even dreamed of doing that.

Eric may be a self-proclaimed geek, but he has the ability to effectively communicate the technology that we have available to our customers.

"I love to meet with our customers to demonstrate our eServices offerings. I am especially fond of the light bulb moment during a meeting."

Eric attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in their printing management program. His education and and passion for technology has helped get Metzgers to where they are today.

Eric is married to his wife Laura, and shares their house with two fur-children Kala and Teddy.

Get tased or go one round with a boxing champ?

Does playing as Little Mac in Mike Tyson’s Punch Out on the NES (1985ish) count? No? - OK, Can I be Ralph Walton in the match against Aurele “Al” Catoure? (Go ahead… Google it.) Fine… bring on the taser.

How about if I just lay down after they ring the bell? No dice? Rats!

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by people doing right by others. It doesn’t have to be something major; just treating people right or doing something nice for someone else.

I am also inspired by technology. I love seeing what people come up with and how it can impact and improve our daily lives.

What are your favorite things to do while away from the office?

I am a self-proclaimed workaholic. It is rare that I can be seen without a laptop nearby.

Other than work, I enjoy spending time with my wife at home relaxing and watching tv or with her family at my brother-in-law’s quarry in Luckey, Ohio.

Do you squeeze the toothpaste from the middle or the end?

Neither – My wife and I use the type of Crest bottle that you don’t really squeeze in a particular spot.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Why?

I really wanted to be a garbage man. I remember being about three years old and riding behind a garbage truck, and I wanted to pull the handle on the side of the truck so bad!

At age 11, when I broke my father’s new computer and figured out how to fix it; I knew that I was destined to work in the technology field.

Cross-Media Designer

Steve brings over 25 years of graphic design experience to Metzgers. His responsibilities as a cross-media designer are to design (or reconfigure) and program print items to allow them to be customized, proofed, and ordered directly from the web by end users.

His attention to detail, editorial skills, and critical eye help provide our clients with the highest quality work and an approximation of the greater audience’s perspective on the client’s bigger picture.

Steve has a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Lourdes College. He lives with his wife, Camilla, in a quiet, well-preserved 1930s neighborhood in West Toledo. They dabble in interests like decorative arts (esp. 1920-1950), pre-WWI American literature, and original pressings of be-bop 78s, among numerous other nerdy, low-impact pursuits.

Steve has also been through five classic cars and over fifty vintage guitars.

Name one thing not many people know about you.

All eight of my great-grandparents were born in Austria-Hungary.

Who or what inspires you?

Family, friends, and all that has not yet been made cheap, tacky or disposable in this world. Anyone or anything escaping the “lowest-common-denominator syndrome.” Celebrities who maintain their dignity (assuming they had any to begin with).

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Why?

A custom car designer like George Barris or a drummer like Sandy Nelson.

What is one book you believe everyone should own?

A dictionary that gets used.
