Discounted Barcodes for Mailing

Metered postage. Barcodes are machine-readable graphics that represent information. There are many different types of barcodes, including those on grocery and retail products, those used in inventory systems and those on envelopes and other bulk mail pieces.

Mailers with large quantities of mail use barcodes to save on postage. For smaller quantities, the savings are not as certain after the costs involved in bar coding are included. Check with your Metzgers printing and mailing expert to see whether you can benefit by using barcodes.

Folded Self-Mailer Standards for 2013

HoldEm 0

Here's the “deal” with the new FSM Standards.

A folded self-mailer is formed of panels created when one or more unbound sheets of paper are folded together and sealed to make a letter-size piece.

According to the Postal Service, the revised standards “are a balanced response to design innovation in the marketplace and allow for efficient processing of letter-size mailpieces.” The requirements take into account USPS automation and are intended to reduce the risk of damage to mail or machinery.

However, some of the changes can significantly impact your FSM designs going forward.

One year ago, as a “heads up,” the Federal Register provided a ten-page, single-spaced document detailing the process by which the new standards had been adopted. That document makes for some rather dry reading—we’re talking the Death Valley of spec sheets here. A somewhat more concise PDF with myriad illustrated examples of folds and seals can be found here.

Bridging the Gap - My 100th Post with Caring Bridge and counting...

CaringBridge.org100 and Counting!

From Joe Metzger’s blog:

This is my 100th post to the CaringBridge blog and over 45,000 people have viewed or read something here. Wow! What a journey!!!

When I see people who have walked with us on this journey of the past 11 months I feel blessed to be able to respond to them with "it feels really good to be on the better side of all this!!"

11 months ago I was feeling weak and run down. Today, for the most part, I feel really good. As Dana and I were talking yesterday... Sure, I have some difficult side effects to my hands and feet, things taste really different now, my memory is off, my vision has gotten worse, I still get anxiety and worry about the future, balance seems strange at times and sometimes I have nose and mouth issues... and my digestive system still isn't "right"... but hey, I'll take all this stuff over how I felt a year ago and for the first six months of 2012.

Ice Cream & Smiles

blog-headerSometimes you just need some ice cream...

Today in Toledo it’s 99 degrees. Luckily, the printing plant here is air conditioned. But I feel bad for our super-duper warehouse, distribution & fulfillment crew. They are dealing with the heat exceptionally. (At least that’s what they TELL me. LOL.)

The best part of a hot & humid day like this is that my brother Tom takes time to call the local ice cream truck guy, and he comes to our parking lot, and bro Tom buys ice cream for the entire crew here at Metzgers.

Swag, Trinkets and Trash

cover-imageAllow Me To Introduce Myself...

Allow us to introduce ourselves…we are Lisa and Angie, otherwise known as Langie. We’re the Promotional Team here at Metzgers. People often get us confused or call us the wrong name so we thought it would simplify things to go by one name. Kind of catchy, don’t you think? All kidding aside, we do work side by side five days a week and spend more time together than we do with our own families. We’ve known each other almost 20 years and we honestly like each other and get along really well. Promotional Products are our lives. Combined we have thirty years of experience in the industry. When we view the world we see logos and products. A little trivia for you…did you know that commemorative buttons were the first known promotional products in the United States, dating back to the election of George Washington in 1789? Calendars, rulers and wooden specialties came along later, but there wasn’t an organized industry until later in the 19th century.
