Postal Service Discounts for Various Mail Classes

Stack of envelopes needing postage.Did you remember the stamp?

The United States Postal Service offers substantial discounts to volume mailers. These discounts cover a variety of mail classes including First-Class Mail, Periodicals and Standard Mail. By having your large mailing properly prepared and by meeting USPS qualifications, you could save more than 50% on postage.

The Postal Service offers discounts because some of the work that otherwise would have to be done by the Postal Service (for example, sorting the mail by ZIP Code, using ZIP + 4 technology and barcodes or transporting the mail to a different postal facility) is done by us. This is clearly a win-win situation for them and for you. Some refer to this as bulk mail. The term bulk mail refers to larger quantities of mail prepared for mailing at reduced postage. The USPS uses the terms "bulk mail," and "presorted mail," interchangeably.

Envelopes being labeled and stacked. Bulk mail postage is lower than a single-piece of mail dropped at a post office (when you put a stamp on a letter, you're paying the single-piece postage rate). Many mailers pay single-piece postage even though they are doing large mailings because they don’t want to do the necessary preparation work or they don’t have the time.

Because of our many mail preparation equipment options, we will help you make smart choices about your mailings, to determine if commercial prices and professional mail preparation are right for you. In order to get these postage discounts, current postal regulations have to be met and managed. We can also offer further tips on First-Class Mail, Periodicals and Standard Mail to help you form a strategy for getting the best postal rates suitable for your mailing.
